“WAITING IN PRESENCE” BY GIOVANNI GALELLA OPENING RECEPTION 9/25.

Wooster Arts Group is proud to announce the return of Giovanni Galella to the SoHo area with "waiting in presence: new works by giovanni galella." The exhibit will be on view from September 21st through September 30th at the Wooster Arts Group Gallery located at 51 Wooster Street, Soho, NY. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, September 25th from 6pm -10pm.
 
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
 
Giovanni Galella's work might be described as abstract interpretations of historical and literary based  ideas, created with a free form energy that is often reminiscent of a few bars of jazz improv. Although born in Jacksonville, Fl (October 1975,) the artist was primarily raised in Northern New Jersey and was actively painting, writing and playing music well before his teenage years.
 
Giovanni's early paintings were primarily influenced by literary themes and experiments in "cut-up" technique, often including fragments of text and random juxtapositions. After high school he spent several years traveling and working in the body modification industry. In 2000, he moved to Bloomington, IN., to study Comparative Literature and Near Eastern Language and Culture at Indiana University. It was after his return from Indiana that the artist began to pursue his painting on a professional level with several well received solo exhibitions in NYC. Giovanni currently resides in Rosendale, NY, where he continues to turn legends and philosophies from times past into vivid movements of visual art.
 
"WAITING IN PRESENCE":
 
The newest collection of work by the artist explores the sensations of spiritual journeys, juxtapositions of virtue and vice, and free form expressions. The work includes images of dervishes, avatars and horn players floating upon canvases laced with textual rythyms. Although the subjects of the whole of the work seem to span across centuries of discovery, they somehow gel together in such as way to create a very synonomous sensory experience.
