A press release from Attorney General Candidate, Sen. Eric T. Schneiderman:
NYS data out today reveals: Total index crime up 4%, murder up 15%, larceny up 12% in Nassau County from 2005-2009 under Kathleen Rice
Crime in Nassau County Out-Pacing New York State – and New York City -- in 9 of 10 categories
Just days after the Rice campaign claimed that crime has gone down in Nassau County during D.A. Rice’s tenure, new statistics released in the last 24 hours by the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services show that total Index Crime in Nassau County has increased by 4 % during Rice’s tenure, Murder has increased more than 15 % during the Rice administration, and Larceny 12 % from 2005-2009. In addition, the statistics reveal that crime in Nassau County is out-pacing the rest of New York State – and New York City -- in nine of ten categories during this time, including murder, rape, violent crime, total index crime, burglary, robbery, and several others.
"These new statistics put to rest any doubt: Crime has gone up in Nassau under the current D.A.'s watch, and crime in the county is out-pacing both New York City and the rest of the state, period," Schneiderman spokesman Eric Koch said. "These numbers underscore the need for Eric Schneiderman's innovative 'smart on crime' policies that reduce crime -- not the old, conservative methods that we now know just don't work."

In an interview Monday night with NY1, D.A. Rice was asked if it was true that crime rates have gone up in Nassau County under her watch, a period in which crime declined in New York State and New York City. The D.A. responded that this was not the case.
Following is a transcript of the exchange:
QUESTION: Is he accurate in saying that the crime rates have gone up in Nassau County?
RICE: Well, in fact, there are statistics that are kept by local law enforcement in Nassau and also in New York State that show that crime has actually been reduced over the time period that I have… overall crime is reduced, has decreased in the time period, and we'll be able to talk about those numbers and we'll be able to show that that is in fact exactly what has happened…
