THE 45TH DISTRICT HAITIAN RELIEF EFFORT.

 

Council Member Jumaane D. Williams announces the launching of a local initiative designed to address the needs of the earthquake survivors in Haiti. Under the Banner, "45th District Haitian Relief Effort," Council Member Williams is partnering with HABNET (Haitian American Business Network) to coordinate relief efforts, register volunteers and provide supportive services for the family members and loved ones suffering at this time.
 
Beginning Wednesday, January 20, 2010, residents of the 45th Councilmanic District can call 718 576-1966 to get information on efforts in the district.
 
HABNET is a well respected organization, promoting entrepreneurship and civic engagement since its inception in 2004. HABNET, known for its business education workshops and financial literacy trainings, is at this critical juncture joining with Council Member Williams to coordinate the outpouring of support from the Haitian community in the 45th District.
 
"I appreciate Council Member Williams' leadership and initiative in this troubling time; he understands that the desperate urge to respond must be met with a strategic approach that considers the larger implications of this disaster" says Mr. Jackson Rockingster, Chairman of HABNET.
 
The goals are to:
1) Provide direct and effective disaster relief efforts from the 45th District
2) Form an infrastructure in the 45th District to channel local efforts to rebuild Haiti after the initial search and rescue mission is complete.
 
HABNETS immediate role:
1) Centralize all relief efforts in the 45th District
2) Fact check and provide the most up to date and accurate information about what donations are needed and reputable organizations accepting donations.
3) Coordinate all relief efforts within the 45th District
          · Fundraisers
          · Informational sessions
4) Coordinate with local agencies and health centers to provide free bereavement counseling within the 45th District
