Popa Chubby
Chubby took his cue from artists of the '60s, including Sly & the Family Stone, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton, among others. In his early twenties, he worked for a while backing punk poet Richard Hell. Chubby's first big break was winning a national blues talent search sponsored by KLON, a public radio station in Long Beach, California. He won New Artist of the Year, and opened the Long Beach Blues Festival in 1992, and has been rocking audience with his bold approach to music ever since.

Chubby continues to play more than 200 club dates a year, and has released numerous albums worldwide. Most notably, his Sony/Okeh debut, 'Booty and the Beast', was produced by longtime Atlantic Records engineer/producer TOM DOWD, whose recordings by Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Wilson Pickett, and many others are legendary!

Christmas Eve with Marshall Crenshaw
2016/12 marshallcrenshaw
Born near Detroit, Michigan, Marshall Crenshaw received his first big break playing John Lennon in the off-Broadway company of Beatlemania. In 1987, he played Buddy Holly in the Richie Valens biopic “La Bamba.” While living in NYC, he recorded the single “Something’s Gonna Happen” for Alan Betrock’s Shake Records, which led to a deal with Warner Bros. His debut album, Marshall Crenshaw, was acclaimed as a pop masterpiece upon its release in 1982 and established him as a first-rate songwriter, singer and guitarist. The record spawned the Top 40 single “Someday, Someway,” which rockabilly singer Robert Gordon covered and scored a hit with a year earlier.
A quote from Trouser Press sums up Marshall Crenshaw’s early career:
“Although he was seen as a latter-day Buddy Holly at the outset, he soon proved too talented and original to be anyone but himself.”
All Music Guide captured Crenshaw’s vibe perfectly:
“He writes songs that are melodic, hooky and emotionally true, and he sings and plays them with an honesty and force that still finds room for humor without venom.”

Joe Louis Walker
Joe Louis Walker is a walking encyclopedia of blues history, and blues vocal and guitar styles. In many ways, Walker’s story is unusual. Born in San Francisco on Christmas Day 1949, he was part of the Bay area blues scene in his early teens, and by age sixteen he had soaked up the sounds of T-Bone Walker, Amos Milburn, and boogie woogie pioneers Meade Lux Lewis and Pete Johnson. As he grew, he found himself on stage with tutors John Lee Hooker, Thelonius Monk, The Soul Stirrers, Steve Miller and Jimi Hendrix.
Walker's career stretches across decades and a variety of musical styles, including gospel, blues, rock and jazz. Along the way he played President George Bush’s inauguration, helped President Bill Clinton induct B.B. King into the Kennedy Centre Awards, and performed on several of America’s most-watched late-night television shows. NPR Music has called Walker “a legendary boundary-pushing icon of modern blues,” and has been referred to within the blues world as a living legend.
“I’d really like to inspire younger musicians to carry on the legacy of blues/roots music. But play, and do it your way. Don’t be afraid to mix it up. There’s no right, or wrong way. Just the way you wanna express yourself. And above all, ENJOY YOURSELF.” - Joe Louis Walker
