AICIA TO BE FEATURED IN “FRAGMENT: ART IN THE PARK & THE NOLITA ART WALK.”
Japanese born artist Aica grew up drawing family portraits on the back of her father’s electrical engineering blueprints. In Osaka, the city where she grew up, high rises and factories were tempered with rich cultural traditions. Very much the product of her culture, Aicia draws inspiration from animae and manga. However unlike other Japanese artists who portray such forms as dark, Aica’s works tend to be subtle and hopeful.
About her work she says, "These moments could be from someone next to me, or even something without a soul like gems. Even if these memories scar my heart in some way, it comforts me to embrace that scar, and surround it with warm sun light. Like witnessing a young girl's isolated emotions being released into air, I hope through my work to inspire someone who may hold sadness within to start loving someone or something around them."
Some of Aica’s illustrations will be featured at the Rebecca Taylor's flagship boutique this weekend as part of "Fragment: Art in the Park & The NoLita Art Walk." Stop by and enjoy champagne and lemonade throughout the day!
