THE BRAND NEW HEAVIES @ COLLETTE BLANCHARD GALLERY: THROUGH 3/8/9.

Jessica Ann Peavy, A Conversation Piece, film still.

Two video artists and one photographer come together for The Brand New Heavies, a show curated by Mickalene Thomas at the Collette Blanchard Gallery. Lauren Kelley's Get Bones from 88 Jones uses Barbie dolls, plastic candy, and malleable clay figures to tell the story of a librarian in love. Jessica Ann Peavy's video A Conversation Piece is actually two videos shown simultaneously, the action cleverly jumping from one screen to the other and back. And Deanna Lawson's deliberately staged photographs convey a certain formality in their austere compositions. Interesting work all around, and well worth your time. You should go.
