Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz Endorses Eric Schneiderman for Attorney General
NEW YORK CITY - Just days after winning the unanimous endorsement of New York’s largest labor union and over fifty progressive elected leaders, Senator Eric Schneiderman’s campaign for Attorney General was endorsed today by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz.
"Eric Schneiderman will be an outstanding Attorney General for the residents of Brooklyn and all New Yorkers," said Borough President Markowitz. "He is a bona-fide reformer, and I know as Attorney General he’ll put equal and fair justice above all. I served in the Senate with Eric and was impressed with his integrity and intellect. He’s just what we need and I’m excited to support him, and look forward to his work to standing up for economic justice, keeping our streets safe and ensuring state government is reformed to work more effectively for the residents of New York."
“I am so honored to have the support of such a popular public official like Borough President Markowitz,” said Eric Schneiderman. “As Attorney General, I will fight every single day to level the playing field for Brooklyn residents and for all New Yorkers. Whether its protecting wages to eradicate consumer fraud, to making government more accountable, I will never back down from a tough challenge. When I am Attorney General, there will not be one set of rules for the powerful special interests and another for everyone else.”
With widespread support from a broad and diverse coalition of progressive New Yorkers and the unanimous endorsement of the state’s largest labor union, 1199/SEIU United Healthcare East, Schneiderman is building on momentum from the downstate launch of his campaign to be the state’s next Attorney General.
To date, Schneiderman has won the endorsement of over fifty federal, state and city elected officials including U.S. Representatives Jerry Nadler, Charles Rangel and Jose Serrano, Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson, NYC Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn, a host of prominent community activists and labor unions including the Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association.
