Chinatown Working Group Announces Upcoming Meetings.
The Chinatown Working Group is “a democratic and open community-based planning initiative on the future of Chinatown. [Their] goal is to support the community’s residents, workers, businesses and visitors.” The neighborhood has many challenges to face including: affordability, culture & historic preservation, economic development, education & schools, immigrant affairs & social services, parks, traffic & transportation, and zoning. Thus these meetings are important and could change the fabric of the community.
Please note a number of important CWG events in the coming week(s):
Wednesday, May 19, 4-5:30pm - The Culture, Affordability, Preservation and Zoning Working Team (CAPZ) is meeting to, among other things, help prepare for its presentation to the full CWG in June @ CB1, 49-51 Chambers Street, Rm. 709
Thursday, May 20, 3-4:30pm - CWG's Steering Committee is meeting to discuss, among other things, the process for hiring a professional planner @ CB1, 49-51 Chambers Street, Rm. 709.
Thursday, June 3, 6pm - The Parks and Immigrant Working Team is meeting at Chinatown YMCA @ MS 131, 100 Hester Street (between Eldridge & Forsythe), Second Floor Library. The main focus will be to devise a more detailed list of the agencies, institutions, community organizations, individuals, officials, and any other parties whoe would be involved in helping implement the proposals in their Preliminary Action Plan.
Monday, June 7, 4-6pm - The CAPZ and Economics Working Teams will be presenting their zoning proposals to the full CWG among other agenda items @ American Legion Post 1291, 191-193 Canal Street, Floor 2.
