CHRISTINE QUINN FUNDRAISER FOR RE-ELECTION.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn held a fundraiser Tuesday night to support her bid for re-election later this year. Over a hundred supporters gathered at a swanky Jane Street location to contribute to her upcoming campaign.

Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer made an impassioned introduction for Speaker Quinn. Said Stringer, “Over the years I have observed that she not only knows every pothole, but every constituent. She knows the community.”

Speaker Quinn spoke graciously to her supporters. Quinn reflected on how it was nearly 10 years to the day that she had first won her City Council seat by special election, with the same people working on her campaign. Quinn also mentioned the Chelsea Recreation Center and gave a nudge to the West Side Stadium, which she had opposed, sending her supporters into a roar.

“I’ve been so incredibly honored to serve this district,” said Quinn, “and I hope I can do it for the next four years.”

Noted Supporters include Congressman Jerold Nadler, Senator Thom Duane, Senator Liz Krueger, Assemblymember Richard Gottfried and Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal.

Speaker Quinn is generally considered progressive. Openly gay, Quinn has strong roots in the LBGT community. Most recently she has come under fire for supporting Mayor Bloomberg in overturning term limits.
