Support of Bill de Blasio for Public Advocate and John Liu for Comptroller
NEW YORK – City Council candidate Margaret Chin today endorsed Bill de Blasio for Public Advocate and John Liu for Comptroller. Chin recently won a hard fought primary for the Democratic nomination against an incumbent Council Member in District 1, which includes Chinatown and lower Manhattan.
“Today, I am endorsing my friends John Liu for comptroller and Bill de Blasio for public advocate.”
“As the first Asian-American woman in the City Council and the 1st to represent District 1, I believe it is time to have an Asian-American Citywide elected official. But more than that, I know that John will keep a close watch over our precious tax dollars. I have supported John since the beginning of his journey, and he has my continued support now.”
"Bill de Blasio is the right public advocate for the future of our City. Although he may be a little taller than me, we see eye to eye on major issues facing the working families of New York. I know that as Public Advocate Bill will make sure the voices of all New Yorkers are heard at City Hall," said Margaret Chin.
"I am honored to receive the endorsement of soon to be Councilmember Margaret Chin. Margaret represents the type of new leadership we need at City Hall to make our government more responsive to the needs of all New Yorkers. As Public Advocate, I hope to work closely with her so together we can create a better for future for our City," said Bill de Blasio.
Bill de Blasio has represented Brooklyn's 39th district in the New York City Council since 2002. He serves as the chair of the General Welfare Committee, where he has successfully fought to maintain vital protections for children, increase access to food stamps, and hold the city accountable to its goals of reducing homelessness. This fall,
Bill took the lead in the fight against extending term limits. He organized a broad and diverse coalition to demand a voter-approved referendum, leading to one of the closest votes in Council history.
“I am proud to endorse Bill de Blasio and John Liu today.”
