Congresswoman Yvette Clarke Endorses Eric Schneiderman For Attorney General
A press release from candidate for Attorney General, State Senator Eric Schneiderman:
Lifelong Progressive Schneiderman Building Largest, Most Diverse Coalition in Race
NEW YORK CITY -- Building the largest, most diverse coalition in this race, Eric Schneiderman's campaign for Attorney General today announced the support of progressive Congresswoman Yvette Clarke of Brooklyn. Clarke, a leader of the city’s large Jamaican community, joins the growing list of over 80 elected officials, labor unions and progressive organizations that are supporting Schneiderman for Attorney General.
“We need an Attorney General who will fight for us, who will fight for economic justice, and who will fight for civil rights. No one fits that job description better than Eric Schneiderman. A lifelong progressive reformer, Eric is the independent leader New Yorkers are looking for. Eric led the fight to end the draconian and ineffective Rockefeller Drug Laws, took on the special interests in Albany and has always stood up for the working men and women of this state. I have no doubt that Eric Schneiderman will be an outstanding Attorney General who will fight to protect the rights of all New Yorkers,” said Rep. Yvette Clarke (D-Brooklyn).
“I’m thrilled to have the support of Yvette Clarke – she’s a tough progressive fighter for the people of New York. When I'm Attorney General, we will continue the fight for justice on behalf of the working men and women of this state,” said Eric Schneiderman. “Our campaign is building the most diverse, progressive coalition in the state, and we will bring the change New York so badly needs.”
With widespread support from a broad and diverse coalition of progressive New Yorkers and the unanimous endorsement of the state's largest labor union, 1199/SEIU United Healthcare East and the largest private-sector union, 32BJ, momentum is growing for Schneiderman's campaign to be the state's next Attorney General.
To date, Schneiderman has won the endorsement of over 80 federal, state and local elected officials including U.S. Representatives Jerry Nadler, Charles Rangel and Jose Serrano, Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson, NYC Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn, prominent community activists, and labor unions including the UAW and the Uniformed Sanitationmen's Association.
