Councilperson Chin Reacts to the WTC Agreement.

Councilperson Margaret Chin released a statement about the agreement between the Port Authority and Silverstein Properties over construction financing at the World Trade Center:

“I am pleased to hear about and to read the details of the deal between the Port Authority and Silverstein Properties. It is so important that we as a community make progress and complete rebuilding efforts at the World trade Center site. At the same time, I am glad to see that the parties have reached a reasonable deal regarding the use of public funds in private developments. I also appreciate that the deal will allow possible development options on the sites of Towers 2 and 3, and will hopefully create an opportunity to ensure that the site really serves the needs of the lower Manhattan community. I continue to be disappointed that the Performing Arts Center is not as central to the plans as I and others in lower Manhattan would like, but I am happy to see forward progress on this site, as we approach the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. I also believe that this agreement provides some opportunities for green, open space in Lower Manhattan, even if it is temporary, that will enhance the community and the lower Manhattan neighborhood.”
