Crime Commission Unveils Sweeping New Guide to Juvenile Justice in NYC
NEW YORK - The Citizens Crime Commission today released a 100-plus page Guide to Juvenile Justice in New York City, designed to better inform the citizens of New York of the critical need to better serve our youth.
"The Crime Commission has been a long-time supporter of a comprehensive approach to preventing and responding to juvenile crime because New York's juvenile justice system has reached a point of extreme crisis," Crime Commission President Richard Aborn said today. "This guide provides an overview of New York City's juvenile justice system with historical context, and highlights the recent efforts made by the City and State to expand alternative programs available to court-involved youth. We hope this guide will better inform the citizens of New York of the critical need to better serve our youth."
The Citizens Crime Commission of New York City is an independent nonprofit organization working to make criminal justice and public safety policies and practices more effective through innovation, research, and education. In the last two decades, the Crime Commission has been a leader on key issues such as: expanding the use of DNA evidence in crime fighting, improving the juvenile justice system, creating alternatives to incarceration, developing interventions against gun violence, and highlighting the changing nature of the threat of terrorism.
