CY VANCE RECEIVES A+ ENDORSMENT FROM THE UFT.

A press release from Manhattan D.A. candidate Cyrus Vance:

Another powerful voice in New York City threw its support behind the Cy Vance Campaign today, as the campaign far outpaces its rivals in major recent endorsements. The United Federation of Teachers, which represents more than 200,000 men and women in New York, announced their endorsement of Cy Vance for Manhattan District Attorney, with a boisterous rally on the steps of City Hall.

“Today is a very important day for us at the UFT, we are here giving our official endorsement to Cy Vance and his campaign,” UFT President Michael Mulgrew said. “Cy came to the United Federation of Teachers with some spectacular ideas about things that we have not heard in a very, very long time. He has a rich tradition throughout his career of continually working with the community on how we can make the legal system and the justice system not only work for the community but with the community.”

“I’m proud to say that my son graduated from a New York City public school. I’ve had the privilege to see the opportunity and the possibilities that our public school system presents as well as its challenges. As District Attorney I will always make protecting our schools, their students and our teachers my first priority and that’s because I know that the state of our schools now will determine the state of our city tomorrow.”

Vance is far outpacing his rivals in endorsements as a strong and diverse coalition of voices have come together to tell voters that Vance is the best candidate to win this election and become the next Manhattan DA. In the last three weeks Vance has been endorsed by the New York Times and the Daily News, U.S. Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez, State Senator Tom Duane, RWDSU, Tenants PAC and the Innocence Project Co-Founders Barry Scheck and Peter Neufeld. Earlier this summer Vance was endorsed by current District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, former Mayor David Dinkins, Caroline Kennedy, Gloria Steinem, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Public Advocate Betsy Gotbaum, Council Member Alan Gerson, former Comptroller H. Carl McCall, Teamsters Local 237, The Sergeants Benevolent Association, former U.S. Attorneys Robert Fiske and Zachary Carter, the founder of the Doe Fund, and many more. He is also supported by more than 100 former ADA’s – men and women who have worked with all three candidates and know what it takes to be an exemplary District Attorney.

We are proud to have the endorsement of the United Federation of Teachers and we look forward to more endorsements in the home stretch of the campaign.
