Dutchess County Democratic Chair and Leaders Endorse Eric Schneiderman for Attorney General.
A press release from State Senator Eric Schneiderman on his Campaign for Attorney General:
With Downstate Launch and Big Labor Support, Momentum IncreasesAs AG Candidate Lands Key Hudson Valley Backing
Dutchess County Democratic Chair Elisa Sumner and three Dutchess County Democratic leaders today announced their individual support for State Senator Eric Schneiderman for Attorney General.
Delivering an enthusiastic endorsement, Elisa Sumner said, "Eric Schneiderman has proven that he is a true reformer who will tackle corruption in government and in the private sector. He has worked to transform the criminal justice system, represented public interest clients as a private attorney and led efforts to reform our state government. Dutchess County Democrats can count on Eric Schneiderman to continue and build upon the great work of Andrew Cuomo as Attorney General.”
Joining Sumner in endorsing Schneiderman today were: State Committee Member Beth Soto, Town of Beekman Democratic Co-Chair Mark Hoops, and Democratic Chair of East Fishkill Michael Rizzo.
“I’m deeply honored to receive the support of Elisa Sumner and leading Dutchess County Democrats,” said Eric Schneiderman. “I am running for Attorney General because there is no higher calling than the pursuit of justice. Equal Justice regardless of race, religion, gender, disability or sexual orientation; Independent Justice without regard to political or special interest influence; and Progressive Justice that takes an activist approach to protecting everyday New Yorkers – in Dutchess County and all across the state.”
With widespread support from a broad and diverse coalition of progressive New Yorkers and leaders of 1199/SEIU United Healthcare East, Schneiderman is building on momentum from the downstate launch of his campaign to be the state’s next Attorney General. Schneiderman was joined Saturday at a press conference by over 25 federal, state and city elected officials, Democratic Party leaders – including U.S. Representatives Jerry Nadler, Charlie Rangel and Jose Serrano, NYC Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and a host of prominent community activists.
Earlier today, Schneiderman announced that his campaign has won the support of the leadership of the powerful 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, and the union expects Schneiderman to be formally endorsed by its Executive Council later this month.
