THE FIGHT TO REPEAL VACANCY DECONTROL GAINS SPEED— HOW YOU CAN HELP!

In February the New York State Assembly passed a housing reform package that included the repeal of the Urstadt Laws and essentially vacancy decontrol.  The Senate’s vote is promised after the completion of the state budget negotiations, presumably in April.

So far, according to the Tenants and Neighbors Association, the Senate has procured 24 co-sponsors and needs 32 votes for the reforms to pass.  Over the next several weeks Tenants and Neighbors will be phone banking, holding press conferences, and lobbying in Albany to finally repeal vacancy decontrol.

The phone campaign begins March 9th, targetting tenants in key Senate Dustructs and will continue to the 23rd.  THere will also be a rally held in Brooklyn, Friday March 20th at 3pm.  (The location is still to be determined.)

To rally or join the phone banks go to the website or email gdadlani@tandn.org.
