A press release from candidate for Attorney General, State Senator Eric Schneiderman:

Democratic Party Leader Cites Lifelong Democrat Schneiderman’s Progressive Record of Accomplishments

NEW YORK – Continuing its momentum, Eric Schneiderman's campaign for Attorney General today announced the support of former Lt. Governor nominee, businessman and Democratic Party leader Dennis Mehiel. Mehiel joins the growing list of over 80 elected officials, labor unions and progressive organizations that are supporting Schneiderman for Attorney General.

“When you look at the field of candidates for Attorney General, it is clear that Eric Schneiderman is the one independent reformer with a record of progressive results that outshines the others. While many in Albany were fighting to maintain the status quo, Eric Schneiderman had the courage to reform the Rockefeller drug laws, clean up ethics in government, and expel a colleague convicted of a crime. That’s the bold, progressive leadership we need in the Attorney General's office,” said Dennis Mehiel.

“I’m proud to have Dennis’ support. As a businessman, Party leader and statewide nominee, Dennis has fought to improve the lives of the people of New York,” said Eric Schneiderman. “I am running for Attorney General because there is no higher calling than the pursuit of justice. With this progressive, diverse coalition, we will deliver greater justice and more equality for all New Yorkers beginning on Day One.”

Dennis Mehiel is the Principal Shareholder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of U. S. Corrugated, a major independent manufacturer of corrugated packaging. Mehiel has long been active in New York State political life. He served for twelve years as a member of the Democratic National Committee and is a former Chairman of the Westchester County Democratic Committee. For eight years he served as an Officer and Director of the New York League of Conservation Voters. He was the New York State Chair of the Kerry Presidential Campaign in 2004 and was the Democratic Nominee for New York State Lt. Governor in 2002.

With widespread support from a broad and diverse coalition of progressive New Yorkers and the unanimous endorsement of the state's largest labor union, 1199/SEIU United Healthcare East and the largest private-sector union, 32BJ, momentum is growing for Schneiderman's campaign to be the state's next Attorney General.

To date, Schneiderman has won the endorsement of over 80 federal, state and local elected officials including U.S. Representatives Jerry Nadler, Charles Rangel and Jose Serrano, Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson, NYC Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn, prominent community activists, and labor unions including the UAW and the Uniformed Sanitationmen's Association.
