THE GVSHP PRESENTS COMMONALITIES AND CONFLICTS BETWEEN PRESERVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY: A PANEL DISCUSSION 4/15/09 AT 8PM
The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation has always been the premier proponent for, well, preservation. However this Wednesday the GVSHP sets out to prove that their cause and environmentalism aren’t mutually exclusive.
Preservation consultant Erica Avrami will moderate a panel of experts to discuss the importance and difficulties of preserving buildings and making them sustainable. The panel will explore the issue through field and case studies of Brooklyn’s McCarren Pool and East Village tenement buildings.
“Preservation and sustainability are both big issues, especially in the current economic environment, but the two movements have not always worked had in hand. This panel will seek to start the conversation about the common ground and differing perspectives of the two.”
