LET'S DEFEND MARRIAGE BY MAKING PEOPLE GET DIVORCED! WAIT A MINUTE...

No less reprehensible a character than Ken Starr has weighed in on the marriage equality debate, working with the Prop 8 Legal Defense Fund in defending the constitutionality of the "defense of marriage" act and proposing that the 18,000+ same sex couples recently wed in California be forcibly divorced. Anyone who actually knows any gay folks in serious relationships can not reasonably support Proposition 8; it's like saying that your friend is almost worthy of the same responsibilities and joys as you are, but not quite because they're in love with someone you wouldn't want to sleep with. Ridiculous, right?

The folks at Courage Campaign think it's ridiculous, so they have arranged a petition, to be signed by Valentine's Day, opposing Starr's forced divorce idea. What's more, Regina Spektor has given them permission to use her song Fidelity to support a montage of married gay couple photos. It's a heartbreaker, in the best possible way.

The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the case for and against Prop 8 on March 5, 2009, with a decision expected within the next 90 days. So if we're lucky, the damage of attempting to defend marriage by banning it from loving couples could be reversed. Sign the petition and pass it on.
