Mark DeMaio's "Absurd Notions" at Synchronicity Fine Arts

"Ladder Day Saint," 2010, Oil on canvas.

Mark Demaio is one of our favorite talents and the SoHo Journal is beyond pleased to announce the opening of his show “Absurd Notions” at SYNCHRONICITY Fine Art. Always the absurdist, Mark Demaio presents a collection that is the perfect juxtapose of whimsy and pain. His subjects— goblins, dolls, and circus freaks— are surprisingly relatable, and hauntingly so. Demaio paints these creatures with colorful masks, far away smiles, and almost always portrayed alone. He makes sure that in their aberration from the norm, they find the proverbial seat next to you. You and his monsters can share in your weirdness and find empathy for each other’s pain. Demaio’s works are wonderful and beguiling to look at. The show will run through October 2nd, 2010. We’ll see you there.
