NAOMI GOLDBERG HAAS DANCES FOR A VARIABLE POPULATION. (SPECIAL WORKSHOP 3/22 AT 3PM.)
Dancer and choreographer Naomi Goldberg Haas opened the company Dances for a Variable Populationin 2005 to prove that movement and dance wasn’t solely for the young and fit.
“What is movement about?” Haas asked. “It’s about expression. And as you get older you become more of yourself. You have more to offer.”
Haas has worked with both youth communities and seniors, as well as classically trained dancers to not only inspire and better their lives but to create truly beautiful performances. Her company produces beautiful art.
Haas has a strong persona, one that no doubt inspires her students. She believes in what she does and believes in the beauty of transformation, something that is especially powerful in her older students.
“My older students improved the most in the shortest period of time.... It is clearly so meaningful for them.”
Haas’s workshops and performances have been praised by students and colleagues alike.
Sandi Sacks, Group Service Coordinator of the Penn South Program for Seniors said of a recital, “The performance was not only incredibly choreographed but also performed beautifully. To see how all ages and bodies can perform together was truly moving. I salute them and the funding sources for creating this beautiful and inspiring program. We need more of these cultural programs that are entertaining, engage the spirit and defy stereotypes.”
Dances for a Variable Population will be having a day of performances and a free workshop starting Sunday, March 22nd at 3pm. Come see what it’s all about!
