NEW YORK -- New York City Council Member Rosie Mendez today announced her support for State Senator Eric Schneiderman for Attorney General. In addition, Schneiderman announced that veteran political operative Patrick B. Jenkins is joining the campaign as a senior adviser.

“With Eric Schneiderman as our next Attorney General, New Yorkers can rest assured that we will have a progressive champion fighting for us. We need a real reformer with a record of getting things done. From LGBT rights to public transportation to criminal justice reform, Eric Schneiderman has always stood up for our values and delivered – that is why I am supporting him for Attorney General,” said New York City Council Member Rosie Mendez.

“I’m honored to receive the support of Council Member Mendez,” said Eric Schneiderman. “Council Member Mendez has been committed to equality and fairness her whole life - and I look forward to working with her as Attorney General to make sure all New Yorkers have equal justice under law. There is no higher calling than the pursuit of justice, and as Attorney General I will pursue justice regardless of race, religion, gender, disability, sexual orientation or identity and without regard to political or special interest influence.”

Schneiderman welcomed Jenkins to his campaign: “Patrick Jenkins is a top-notch talent who brings years of experience to the team. I know Patrick’s skills will be a big asset to the campaign over the coming months as we talk about the issues people face every day, and work to deliver equal justice for all New Yorkers.”

Patrick B. Jenkins has over a dozen years of experience in local and national politics, government administration and public policy. He started Patrick B. Jenkins and Associates, a consulting firm specializing in strategic solutions and community relations after serving as a government affairs specialist at Kasirer Consulting, New York City’s top ranked lobbying firm.

Patrick started in government and community relations with the New York City Comptroller's office before serving in the office of Congressman Gregory W. Meeks. In addition to his work in government, Patrick has extensive campaign experience serving as a consultant to several local campaigns including both Ferrer for Mayor campaigns; serving as the political director for the 2002 McCall/Mehiel gubernatorial campaign, and a field operative in Ohio and South Carolina for John Kerry's presidential bid. From 2005 to 2007, Patrick served as Deputy Campaign Manager for Eliot Spitzer's campaign for Governor.

With widespread support from a broad and diverse coalition of progressive New Yorkers and leaders of 1199/SEIU United Healthcare East, Schneiderman is building on momentum from the downstate launch of his campaign to be the state’s next Attorney General. Schneiderman was joined last Saturday at a press conference by over 25 federal, state and city elected officials, Democratic Party leaders – including U.S. Representatives Jerry Nadler, Charlie Rangel and Jose Serrano, NYC Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn, and a host of prominent community activists.

Schneiderman has built on that momentum this week by winning the support of the leadership of the powerful 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, Dutchess County Democratic Chair Elisa Sumner and NYC Council Member Inez Dickens.
