NY IN THE 70’S BY ALLAN TANNENBAUM OPENING 5/28 AT 7PM.
New York in the 70’s was a scene. It was the Mecca of a cultural movement that I am too young to have been a part of, but reminisce as if it were my own. Its presence lives on in today’s arts and music, and its stories haunt my generation and propel us to strive for ingenuity— a welcomed challenge.
While Allan Tannenbaum was the photo editor of the SoHo Weekly News he produced a body of work that can only be described as iconic. His photographs documented the 70’s from parties to politics, from street gangs to street divas, and from the homeless to Hollywood stars.
Not Fade Away Gallery, a space dedicated to “preserving and presenting important photography that documents the history of music, entertainment, celebrities culture and style,” will be showcasing Tannenbaum’s works through the end of June. The opening reception is Thursday and Tannenbaum will be present signing his new book of the same name, “New York in the ‘70’s.”
