PUBLIC-READING-FRIENDLY POETRY READING @ MCNALLY JACKSON: 3/30/9 @ 7PM.

Former United States Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky.

Poetry readings can be risky.

you might
get a poet
who reads
their work
in small,
albeit pretentious
blocks of
words, in a
faraway
voice...

OR YOU MIGHT GET KILLED BY THE SKILLED WORD-PLAY
OF A STREET-WISE CHILD WITH MUCH TO SAY
WHO STANDS AND COMMANDS THE STAGE ALL DAY
AND YELLS AT THE CROWD LIKE THEY OWE HIM MONEY TO PAY!
AND YES, POEMS CAN STILL RHYME, OKAY?!?!?

Or, if you're lucky, you might get something like this night of poets reading from the Robert Pinsky-edited Essential Pleasures: A New Anthology of Poems to Read Aloud. Joining Pinsky for this free reading will be the likes of CK Williams, Phillip Schultz, Mark Strand and Sharon Olds—all serious poets who know what they're talking about and, just as importantly, how to say it. You should go.
