Cites Schneiderman's lifelong commitment to progressive leadership, vision of equal justice for all
Schneiderman surging, with nods from NY Times, Byron Brown, Citizens Union, UFT & Sharpton in last 5 days
NEW YORK – On the heels of a powerful endorsement by the New York Times, the Reverend Al Sharpton today announced his support for Eric Schneiderman to be New York's next Attorney General. The national civil rights leader joins the growing list of over 100 progressive leaders and grassroots organizations that are supporting Schneiderman for Attorney General.
"Eric Schneiderman is a true leader who understands the problems of New Yorkers from all walks of life, and has dedicated his career to progressive and social justice," Reverend Sharpton said today. "Eric doesn’t just talk about equal justice, he walks the walk, and I am delighted to endorse his candidacy for Attorney General and encourage all New Yorkers to support him."
"I am so honored to receive the support of Reverend Al Sharpton, a leader on human and civil rights not just here in New York but nationally," Eric Schneiderman said today. "I will be an Attorney General for all New Yorkers, to promote equal justice for all, and with the Reverend's support, we are a major step closer to making that happen."
"With the endorsement of Rev. Sharpton, it is clear that the momentum in the race for Attorney General is with Eric Schneiderman. The Reverend knows a lot about justice, and I know there is no other candidate who can match Eric's record getting the job done," said Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson. "For years, Eric led the fight to end the draconian Rockefeller Drug Laws and to fulfill the promise of 'one person, one vote' by reforming the way prison inmates are counted after the census. And he delivered. We are proud to stand with Eric in the fight for equal justice for all New Yorkers."
With widespread support from a broad and diverse coalition of progressive New Yorkers, the New York Times, Citizens Union, key unions like 1199, HTC, and 32BJ, NARAL Pro-Choice New York and Citizen Action, momentum is growing for Schneiderman's campaign to be the state's next Attorney General. In the last five days alone, Schneiderman has been endorsed by the Times, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown, Citizens Union, the UFT, and now Rev. Sharpton.
