NEW YORK CITY - Citing his unwavering commitment to working families, the New York Hotel and Motel Trades Council, AFL-CIO (HTC) announced its endorsement of Eric Schneiderman in the race for New York State Attorney General today. The union, which represents 80,000-plus New Yorkers and is known for its highly sophisticated political operation, plans an aggressive field program to communicate with its members throughout the state to recruit volunteers for the campaign.

HTC's support for Eric Schneiderman comes on the heels of his campaign's major endorsements from Western New York leaders and former NYC Mayor David Dinkins.

“In a crowded field of Attorney General candidates, Eric Schneiderman stands out as the clear choice to bring justice to the working people of this state,” said Peter Ward, President of the Hotel Trades Council. “As a lawyer, lawmaker and activist, Eric has never wavered in his commitment to protecting consumers, working for quality jobs and taking on tough fights on behalf of the women and men of New York. Eric Schneiderman will be a smart, progressive Attorney General who will always stand up for what’s right,” said Ward.

“This was a field of many good candidates, all of whom courted us assiduously,” Ward added. “But in the end, Eric Schneiderman rose above the rest as someone who will be a fantastic Attorney General, and we are ready to activate our considerable resources and man-power to make that happen.”

Schneiderman has been on the front lines fighting for issues important to New York’s working families, including raising the state’s minimum wage, taking on mortgage fraud and the foreclosure crisis, protecting immigrants from deceptive business practices, reforming Wall Street and fighting insurance industry abuses.

“I am deeply honored to have earned the endorsement of the hardworking men and women of the Hotel Trades Council,” said lifelong progressive Democrat Eric Schneiderman. “As Attorney General, I will continue my lifelong record of advocacy on behalf of working families and fighting for social justice. I thank the members of this remarkable union for your support. You can count on me to protect consumers and stand up for working families every day as Attorney General.”

The union’s endorsement was based both on Schneiderman’s proven track record in the New York State Senate and the sincerity of his commitment to issues of importance to the union’s membership, such as quality jobs, public education, affordable housing, responsible development, public safety, and economic justice.

HTC joins the growing list of over 90 elected officials, labor unions and progressive organizations that are supporting Schneiderman for Attorney General, including U.S. Representatives Jerry Nadler, Yvette Clarke and Jose Serrano, NYC Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn, prominent community activists, and labor unions including 1199, 32BJ, the UAW and the Uniformed Sanitationmen's Association.

With the endorsements of HTC, 1199, and 32BJ, Schneiderman has assembled the support of the three most highly coveted field operations in New York.
