A press release from candidate for Attorney General State Senator Eric Schneiderman:
Lifelong Democrat Schneiderman Wins Major Endorsement From Attorney General Candidate and LGBT Leader
Cites Schneiderman’s Unwavering Commitment to Progressive Justice
NEW YORK – Former Attorney General candidate, respected lawyer and LGBT leader Sean Patrick Maloney endorsed Eric Schneiderman for Attorney General today at a press conference in front of City Hall. In his enthusiastic endorsement, Maloney cited Schneiderman’s lifelong record of fighting for progressive justice and the values of the Democratic Party.
"Eric Schneiderman is a lifelong progressive Democrat with a proven track record of delivering results for all New Yorkers. In a field of strong candidates, Eric stands out as the most experienced, most progressive and most independent leader. On issue after issue, time after time, Eric Schneiderman has been fighting for us, even when it wasn't politically popular. As Attorney General, there is no doubt that Eric will continue his work fighting to make our state a fairer and more just place to live for every single New Yorker,” said Sean Patrick Maloney.
“Sean Maloney has served this nation with distinction as a lawyer, public servant and candidate for Attorney General – it’s a tremendous honor to have his support,” said Eric Schneiderman, a lifelong progressive Democrat. “With the help of progressive leaders like Sean, our campaign is delivering the message of equal, independent and progressive justice to every part of this state. As Attorney General, I will never stop fighting for the rights of all New Yorkers to make our state more equal and just.”
From 1997-2000, Sean served as a senior west wing advisor to President Clinton. As the President's staff secretary, Sean managed the daily flow of information to the President and prepared the President's decision memos and daily briefing materials.
After running for Attorney General in 2006, Sean served as First Deputy Secretary to the Governor of New York, overseeing 13 state agencies and departments, including those responsible for all homeland security, state police and emergency management operations.
With widespread support from a broad and diverse coalition of progressive New Yorkers and the unanimous endorsement of the state’s largest labor union, 1199/SEIU United Healthcare East and the largest private-sector union, 32BJ, momentum is growing for Schneiderman’s campaign to be the state’s next Attorney General.
To date, Schneiderman has won the endorsement of over fifty federal, state and local elected officials including U.S. Representatives Jerry Nadler and Jose Serrano, Democratic Conference Leader John Sampson, NYC Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn, a host of prominent community activists, and labor unions including the United Autoworkers (UAW) and Uniformed Sanitationmen’s Association.
