SERIES 7: THE CONTENDERS AT 92Y TRIBECA 4/25/09 AT 10 PM.

Series 7: The Contenders is one of my favorite cult films because it satirizes one of the most loathed social manias— reality TV.  The plot is simple:  In the near future the most popular program is a reality game show in which 6 contestants are pitted against each other in a kill or be killed contest.  How far will contestants really go?  Are people really such shameless fame-whores that they will kill to be on TV?  How well will it rate?  It’s Ed T.V. meets Battle Royale, and just as entertaining as both. 

Directed by Daniel Minahan, with Brooke Smith, Mark Woodbury, Michael Kaycheck, Series 7 is both campy and horrifying, with genuine social commentary.  It will play Saturday night at the 92y in Tribeca, and you better believe there will  be followers.  It’s the way to watch it.
