Stephen Sprouse (1953-2004) was a hugely influential fashion designer who built on Warhol’s irreverent mixing of fashion, music and visual art. The difference between these two geniuses of design is that Warhol cut his teeth with the Velvet Underground and their musical brethren; Sprouse made his mark when music—especially here in New York—could mean punk rock, hip hop, no wave, or any combination thereof. The paintings currently on display at Deitch convey this mixing of genre and medium beautifully. You should go.
