STOP NYU EXPANSION: A LETTER FROM ANDREW BERMAN.

The GVSHP gathered over 200 letters which we will deliver to Mayor Bloomberg, NYU President Sexton, local elected officials, community boards, and members of the NYU Community Task Force saying that NYU must abide by its commitments to seek locations outside of our neighborhood if it is to expand, and seek to re-use buildings rather than demolish them.  We need to keep that momentum going!

A letter from Andrew Berman:

Dear friend,

As you probably know, on Monday we co-sponsored a very successful community Town Hall on the NYU 2031 plan.  More than 250 people showed up to learn more about the plan, including a massive planned expansion of NYU facilities in our neighborhood -- as much as doubling the university's rate of growth over the last 40 years -- and to send a message that such massive expansion is not acceptable.  We gathered over 200 letters which we will deliver to Mayor Bloomberg, NYU President Sexton, local elected officials, community boards, and members of the NYU Community Task Force saying that NYU must abide by its commitments to seek locations outside of our neighborhood if it is to expand, and seek to re-use buildings rather than demolish them.  But we have to keep that momentum going.

So I ask you to do two things—
1.     If you did not attend the Town Hall and have not done so already, please sign a letter by going to www.gvshp.org/_gvshp/preservation/nyu/nyu-06-23-09.htm and sending the e-mail back to GVSHP -- we will deliver it for you.
2.    Please send along the request to sign this letter to all your friends, family, and neighbors who care about protecting the Village from NYU's expansion plans; use the link above or the e-mail below, which also contains pictures of Monday's Town Hall meeting and statistics about NYU's expansion plans.

NYU will be finalizing its 2031 expansion plans in the next several months.  We need to act NOW to ensure that any such plans do not include massive expansion in our neighborhoods as they are currently pursuing.

Sincerely,

Andrew Berman
