UPDATE FROM TENANTS AND NEIGHBORS!
Tenants and Neighbors is a grassroots organization that aims to empower tenants by uniting, advocating for tenants rights, and participating on a local, state and even national level to preserve the at-risk affordable housing. The text below is an email updating us on their progress.

Strengthen Rent Regulation and Repeal Vacancy Decontrol:
There are four weeks left in the legislative session. This means that we have four weeks to urge our lawmakers to pass bills to strengthen the rent laws! There are many ways that you can get involved. To volunteer to phone bank, door knock, or take a trip up to Albany, please contact Giti at gdadlani@tandn.org / 212-608-4320 x 316.
T&N is leading a day trip to Albany on Thursday, June 4th. This is part of an effort to maintain a strong presence in Albany and entails a small group driving up in a van, distributing literature about the rent laws directly to the State Senators, and scheduling lobby visits. If you would like to join us on June 4th, or if you would like to sign up to go on another day, please contact Giti.
As the legislative session comes to an end, we should anticipate important votes on critical tenant bills. However, we do not know the actual date these votes will take place. When these votes are scheduled, tenants need to have a massive presence in Albany – so we’re hoping to identify T&N members and allies who may be able to go to Albany with little notice. If you are interested in joining us for the mass mobilization to Albany for these votes, please let Giti know so she can contact you as soon as we know when these votes will take place.
Testify at the Rent Guidelines Board Hearings:
Tenants & Neighbors is hosting training workshops for tenants and allies who would like to prepare testimony and testify at upcoming meetings of the Rent Guidelines Board, which will vote at the end of June to set the rent adjustments for rent stabilized lease renewals. These workshops are held at the Tenants & Neighbors office, but you can request to have one at your building / organization. For more information, to attend one of these workshops, or to request to have a workshop in your building, please contact Giti at 212-608-4320 x 316 / gdadlani@tandn.org.
Call the NYC RGB to register to testify: 212-385-2934 x 11. If you are a member of a tenant organization, contact Giti for details about group testimony.
