Upstate Leaders Endorse Eric Schneiderman for Attorney General.
A press release from Attorney General Candidate, State Senator Eric Schneiderman:
Following Major Statewide Endorsements, Surging AG Candidate Lands Key Support in Central New York and Capital Region
NEW YORK – Support for Eric Schneiderman’s bid for New York State Attorney General continues to grow in every region across New York State. Today, the Schneiderman campaign received a major boost with the endorsements of Democratic State Senators Neil Breslin (D-Delmar) and David Valesky (D-Oneida). These leaders join over 50 progressive reformers – and the leadership of 1199/SEIU United Healthcare East – in endorsing Schneiderman’s candidacy in recent days.
“Eric Schneiderman is exactly the kind of Attorney General we need today. I know he will fight for upstate New Yorkers every day to make sure everyone gets equal justice under the law. As a reformer, he has spent years fighting for what's right, and as Attorney General, I know he will continue to put the needs of hardworking New Yorkers first,” said Senator Neil Breslin.
“Eric Schneiderman is smart, tough and tireless in fighting for what’s right for New Yorkers. Eric doesn’t just talk a good game, he delivers. Eric’s challenged the status quo in Albany, and he’s been a real leader in taking on Medicaid Fraud to protect our tax dollars. Eric Schneiderman understands the concerns of Central New York and I am confident that he will continue to be an advocate for the people of Syracuse as Attorney General,” said Senator David Valesky.
“I am honored to have the support of Senators Breslin and Valesky. I look forward to working with them as Attorney General to address the concerns New York’s working families are facing every day - whether it’s attacking mortgage fraud, stopping insurance abuses or protecting our neighborhoods from crime. It's time to think big,” said Eric Schneiderman.
Schneiderman also picked up the endorsement today of Albany Common Council Member Catherine M. Fahey and Albany Common Council Member Leah Golby.
With widespread support from a broad and diverse coalition of progressive New Yorkers and leaders of 1199/SEIU United Healthcare East, Schneiderman is building on momentum from the downstate launch of his campaign to be the state’s next Attorney General. Schneiderman was joined last week at a press conference by over 25 federal, state and city elected officials, Democratic Party leaders – including U.S. Representatives Jerry Nadler, Charles Rangel and Jose Serrano, NYC Public Advocate Bill de Blasio, NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn – and a host of prominent community activists.
On Wednesday, Schneiderman announced that his campaign has won the support of the leadership of the powerful 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, and the union expects Schneiderman to be formally endorsed by its Executive Council later this month.
