WHY ADULTS WILL LOVE THE NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL CHILDREN’S FILM FESTIVAL 2009: 2/27/9— 3/15/9

The NYICFF is seemingly intuitive with the films it chooses.  They understand what is uplifting, what is fun, and what is enhancing.  They are not looking for the next Hannah Montana.  The cartoons are worldlier than Disney and the effects more transformative— in a good way.

Most of the films are made for children of all ages but a handful contain mature content better suited for young adults.  That’s not to say the NYICFF lost its intuition.  In fact its mojo is perfectly in tact.  Today’s youth are saturated with themes of drugs, drinking, smoking, sex, violence, loss, bloodshed, and (last but not least) swearing.  So why avoid it?  The NYICFF features films with themes that youth face today.  The flicks chosen are aware, smart, and truthful.  Qualities even your tween can respect.

So why will adults love it?  Because the storytelling is suitable for children doesn’t mean the plots are watered down.  Adults will still be touched. The NYICFF is brilliant at filtering the best and it has yet to let down.
