THE WORKING FAMILIES PARTY WANTS TO PAY YOUR RENT.
Has it really come to this? The Working Families Party is holding a contest to find out which renter really has it worst. Points that will work in your favor: no heat, unsafe stairs, rusty water, rats. Wow the winner must be so lucky…. Well at least they’ll have a month’s rent paid for so they can enjoy their hell hole.
Can it be that lawmakers are so out of touch with their constituents that they need visual aide to realize we need better, stronger rent laws? Apparently.
Below is an email sent from the WFP detailing the contest:
Ever thought you were the most unlucky renter in NYC? If you ever went through the hell of finding a decent, affordable place to live in New York City, the Working Families Party has a silver lining for you. We're proud to announce:
The WFP Dispatches from Rental Hell Video Contest!
Over the past weeks, we've been building support for stronger rent laws with more than 2,500 signatures on our online petition. With important State Senate Committee hearings coming up in June, and only 4 weeks left to the legislative session, it's time to turn up the heat.
We're holding our first ever video contest, where you have a chance to win a month's free rent just by telling your rental hell story on camera. You'll also be raising awareness about an important issue that affects millions of New Yorkers: the need for stronger rent laws.
The deadline for entries is June 6th. WFP will pick the finalists, but the winner will be chosen by YOU. Contestants' entries should be entertaining while highlighting the very real problems that renters face. Visit www.rentalhell.org for the contest rules and some sample entries prepared by our staff.
All you really need to win is a good story and a webcam. Even a cell phone with a video camera can work. What kind of a story qualifies? Just about anything, as long as you are suffering in rental hell:
- Ever had a winter with no heat?
- Ever had your rent raised 20% in one year?
- Ever been priced out of your neighborhood?
- Do you live with rats?
- Is the landlord trying to force you out?
- Are you frustrated that your rent is always going up, but your salary remains the same?
Tell us a story that makes us feel for you. Persuade enough people that you really do live or lived in rental hell, and you just might win a month's free rent!
See the contest rules and submission form over at www.rentalhell.org, and forward this contest announcement to anyone interested in winning a month's free rent.
Good luck!
Charles, Dan L., Bryan and the rest of the WFP team
